My Thanksgiving fell somewhat short of Normal Rockwell’s. The turkey, which weighed more than my toddler, was dry. In the course of preparing the feast, I set off two fire alarms, mine and a neighbor’s. The pecan pie that I’ve successfully made a dozen times? Runny.
Luckily, the antidote to a less-than-perfect holiday is close at hand. When you’ve had all the holly jolly you can bear, climb in the car and head to Adkins Arboretum. The air is sparkling, the goats endearing, and five miles of paths will put a dent in your holiday calorie count.
Best of all? The only turkeys you’ll encounter will be the ones strutting across the meadow.
